These are the things and hacks you must know as a Computer Engineering student
There are some things that you have to know like you can not get the toothpaste back to the tube once it’s out… ahem anyway, How many things do you know as a Computer Engineer student?
Most of the engineers always have this fear of missing out on some crucial information. And it’s very common!
So before it’s too late to know, allow us to provide you with some knowledge and wisdom about CE.
Here are the basics, and take our word for it you MUST know it!
1. The most important thing, learn the difference between computer science and computer engineering. You must know which stream you belong to… not all the students are “Rancho” from ‘3 Idiots’There are Right things and Wrong things in life, in between these two there is a thing called ‘fine to do things’ like Rooting your phone for example. You must know formatting computers, laptops & mobile phones. Also, you have to be the one who can easily install an OS and know how to upgrade the system.
3. The basic understanding of a computer and it’s components. It is very simple but most of the students don’t pay much attention to it. You must know about the processor and its technology since these days, the computing industry is massively dominated by mobile technology. Latest Mobile phones have faster processors than a low price range laptop from 3 years ago, that too with extended RAM.
4. Let’s talk about some concepts and techniques.
Please go ahead and Check out this blog post by Steve Yegge (have worked in Amazon, now at Google)
- Basic programming (including recursion, file I/O, formatted output, loops, etc).
- Object-oriented design (including design patterns etc). You should be able to produce sensible OO designs as well as understanding the concepts.
- Scripting and regexes.
- Data structures — lists, sets, hashtables, trees, graphs, and so on — as well as Big O notation and algorithmic complexity.
- Bits, bytes and binary numbers — how numbers are represented within the computer, and how to manipulate them.
And to help you with that we have selected some websites and applications. Here is the list…
- Fossbytes - Fresh Bytes of Technology and More A fantastic tech media startup made in India.
- Curiosity - Makes You Smarter Another website that provides you an immense amount of information in various fields, a must for any Computer Engineer.
- Lynda - From LinkedIn Go ahead and grab as much as you can.
- The New Boston a YouTube channel for tutorials on almost everything which is related to the computer, do check out some videos
- Gate Lectures by Ravindrababu Ravula You can get the solution of any technical subjects here. Some of the videos are paid but there are many other videos that can help you during your university exam.
- And a recommendation, that is very popular already, Technical Guruji a channel that gives away vital information on technology, in Hindi. Videos on this channel are super simple to watch and understand!
7. The most required skills in your life, Soft Skills. Try developing a vigilant set of skills in your student life to reap the benefits later. As a computer engineer, you must know how to code but this soft skill adds up in your profile and makes a huge impact in your annual package. It’s feasible for any student to pick up a side course go ahead take it on, select any Soft Skill course.

5 college tips every student should hear
Here are five tips that can make your transition easier and start your college experience on the right foot.

Balance is key.
Starting college exposes you to a bigger world than you are usually used to. Students look forward to new experiences and meeting new people. But it’s hard to balance academics, health and a social life successfully, especially in the first few months of a big change. But it is helpful to set a daily schedule from the first day of college to ensure that you have a healthy balance between work and play.
College activities are just as essential as college classes.
For some of us, the new style of education and the overwhelming amount of syllabus can be challenging and often be hard to cope with. Students tend to forget about extra-curricular activities to focus solely on classes and tests. Try taking the first month to settle in and understand your academic requirements. Once you have done that and set a timetable to cope with the syllabus, join a club! Explore your campus and check out the various clubs, workshops, and events it offers. Make sure you actively partake in them. This is a great way to make new friends and pursue your hobbies along with your education. AVCOE hosts various events throughout the year: http://www.avcoe.org/eventdb.php
Attendance is more important than you think.
You may have been told that you need to attend all your classes more times than you would like to hear. As cliche as it sounds, it really is an essential step towards understanding your courses better. A percentage of your attendance being mandatory gives you the liberty to skip one or two classes if you want to. Unless you have an emergency you need to attend to, it is not advisable to skip your classes. Active learning does 40-50% of studying for you. The independent learning you do after that acts as a revision of what you already know. Merely sitting in class and listening to your professor is more beneficial than you would think. Even if you zone out, you will still unknowingly absorb the learning material.
Know your professors.
Introduce yourself to your professors on the first day of class. Build a rapport with them from the start and always ask for help. Remember! No question is too silly to ask. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance no matter how small your doubt may be. In fact, the more questions you ask, the happier your professors will be, as it shows that you are interested to learn the subject they teach.
Do not tolerate any harassment.
There is no such thing as ‘overreacting’ when it comes to harassment. Trust your instincts when it comes to new people and uncomfortable situations. If someone or something makes you feel unsafe in the slightest, do not hesitate to report it to authorities. Any problem or unsafe situation is never too small to report. AVCOE has a zero-tolerance policy for any kind of harassment. Students are encouraged to make use of their protection programs as and when they need to.

Here's how you can prepare for Group Discussions
Group Discussions or GD are mandatorily conducted by many colleges, institutions, and companies in their selection process. Usually conducted after an aptitude test and followed by a personal interview, GDs are performed to check on your soft skills and knowledge.
While most GDs are fairly easy to crack, many candidates face problems because they are either not confident enough, do not have adequate knowledge on the subject or lack command over the language. However, there are ways in which one can master the group discussion game.
Stay updated
Group discussions are generally held on the current trending topics. Read newspapers regularly and try knowing at least a little something about everything. See to that that you have adequate General Knowledge about historical events and basic geography.Understand the topic
After you are given a topic, make sure that you understand the point of it well. If you have any doubts, make sure that you get them rectified. Clarity of the topic is of utmost importance in a GD.Clear thoughts
Always concentrate on the quality and not on the quantity. You must have a clear and concise message every time you speak. Always concentrate on ‘what’ rather than ‘how much’.Communication
Group Discussions are conducted to check on your soft skills. If you are not able to put forth your views clearly or are not able to communicate properly with other candidates, you will definitely be marked negatively. Make sure that you work on your leadership skills, social skills, team skills, problem-solving skills and presence of mind before going to a GD. Try being the one who starts and concludes the discussion. Make sure you introduce yourself before starting. Add to other’s points, but never interrupt. Also, listen carefully to what other candidates are saying. Don’t be aggressive or be deterred by somebody else’s submissive behavior. Be humble, acceptive and encourage other candidates to speak.Group Discussions provide one with a great opportunity to showcase their knowledge and personality. We wish you all the very best and hope that you make the most of them.

Campus Placement: Preparation and Tips
- Grades - needless to say, most of the companies interview only those candidates that manage to score a particular percentile. Hence, it becomes important to score well to be able to qualify for these interviews. From the very beginning, make sure that you maintain a good grade point.
- Knowledge about the industry and company - being equipped with some knowledge about the industry and knowing even a little something about the company you are interviewing for can give you an upper hand over others. Make sure that you have some knowledge on the latest technology being used in the industry.
- Communication skills - not just campus placements or interviews, good communication skills are required everywhere. And since they play a big role in helping make good careers, companies look for candidates with the same. It is very important for an interviewee to come out as confident, affluent and with the ability to carry out conversations.
- Attitude - Most recruiters look for a positive outlook in the candidates while hiring. How positive you are about the job, how you are planning to contribute to the company and your goals, all play an important role. Recruiters generally look for a candidate with a foresight. Many companies deliberately create a stressful environment during the campus placement season, just to check how every candidate functions in such conditions.
Amrutvahini College of Engineering has always believed in providing its students with top-notch facilities - be it in the class, labs or th...

- 22.26 Liter of hot water is also available for each student everyday.
- On an average, the normal usable water per student is approximately 75 Lit. per day.
Health facilities
At AVCOE, we make sure that our students receive proper medical care when needed. Which is why we have a First Aid and Medical Dispensary with a MBBS doctor present at the campus everyday. A vehicle for medical emergency is also available.
Food
Healthy diet is necessary for students. Which is why AVCOE tries to give its students the most nutritious and tastiest food. For the very same reason, the campus has 5 mess and a canteen.
Safety
Understanding that the safety of the students is our responsibility, AVCOE campus is under 24x7 CCTV surveillance. Fire Extinguishers are also installed in all hostels and security is available in each hostel. A complaint register is also placed in the campus so that the students can write about the complaints that they have, which will be solved within two days. Biometric attendance is also available in the girls hostel.

HOW TO DEAL WITH ACADEMIC STRESS?
At AVCOE, we are concerned about the mental health of our students and hence, here is a list of tips that could help students deal with academic pressure.

TALK.
The teachers and staff at AVCOE are very friendly and are always ready to help our students. Teachers regularly discuss mental health with students to make sure that they are in the right mind space and encourage the students to approach them in case of problems.
Incorporate more anticipation in life
It is very important to have something to look up to in life. These things could be as small as meeting an old friend at the weekend or wanting to eat a particular dish for dinner. These little things could give you a small purpose and help you get through tough times easily. Try doing something new twice a week, like a stress-busting dinner with your friends or a walk to a new place.
Regular exercising
Exercising not only improves your body strength, but it also elevates your mind and improves your mental strength. Being mentally strong will definitely come handy when you will be going through rough patches, not only academically but in every aspect of your life. A study showed that a regular exercise routine has been shown to decrease symptoms of mild to moderate depression. Exercises of any kind- running, yoga, dancing, pilates, can help you to burst stress.
AVCOE always hosts different events that engage students in extracurricular activities to act as a break from the monotony of academia and release all their stress.
Surround yourself with positive people
Remember, you don’t want anything negative in your life. Make sure that you surround yourself with people who support you and motivate you. You don’t want people who put you down and don’t want to see you grow. Choose your people wisely, period.
AVCOE provides students with the best possible positive environment which is why there are only happy faces at our campus.
Stop comparing
One mistake that all of the human race is guilty of is comparing. We are wired in a way that we always end up comparing ourselves with others but you need to start putting extra efforts to be happy with whatever you have and whatever you are. It’s easy to fall into the trap of measuring your success with the success of others but you don’t have to do that. Understand that all of us are different and someone, somewhere is always going to be better than you. Strive to be that better person in a positive way.
Stop procrastinating
The major reason for academic pressure in students is their habit of procrastinating. The more you delay your assignments and submissions, the longer will be the pile of ‘to-do’s’ a week before their submission date, which will also be directly proportional to your tension and stress of completing them on time. However, if you finish the work assigned for a day on time, life will be much easier, right?
So these were all the tips that AVCOE thinks anyone can follow for a healthy, stress-free life. Hope you implement them in your life and stay away from all the negatives.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOSTEL ROOMS MORE HOMELIKE
So why not turn a place that is giving you so many beautiful memories into something beautiful in itself?

Photos!
One of the best and easiest ways of personalising your room is by decorating your room with pictures. From selfies to family photos or from your travel pictures to the pictures of your favorite band, there’s so much you can add! You can always stick these pictures on the walls or your cupboards.
‘Plant’-ing it!
Plants are a great way to make your hostel room feel more homelike. They also add a sense of freshness into your room and this could really help if you are living in a dull one.
Lights on!
Without lights, decorations feel incomplete. The cute fairy lights or light lamps, make sure that you have many of those. A well lit room will always make you feel bright, happy and positive. Plus, it’s so cool!
Doors and mirrors!
Doors can always be decorated with life size posters or different types of stickers. The periphery of mirrors too, can be decorated with lights or other accessories.
The little things!
The way you place your books, the color of your bed-sheets, the color of the curtains, the kind of accessories you use to decorate your rooms etc. are all the little things that will add to the homelike feeling of your room. You can also make items that suit your taste and style. It is always advised to use bright colors and keep adding little things to your new home!
There’s so much more that you can do to make your hostel room your second home! We hope that you love decorating it and enjoy making memories that you will cherish for life like the students at AVCOE do.

Let’s agree to the fact that in India, we have a situation with ‘engineering’. It could either be a “Boon or bane” which means, it could tur...
Engineering is incredible. Here are a few miraculous examples to prove that engineering is more than just a career option.
It’s all good when you get the benefits out of something, in which you’ve had spent a lot of your time! But what’s not going right with those who can’t make situations any better.
There is an issue in projection of this profession!
When we normally talk about engineering, we prioritize the need to have a decent job. Which is not wrong really, but it is when your only aim is to be a certified candidate to of an esteemed organization.

Where is the creativity?
The creativity gets left out when your behavior is too predictable and structured. Think of someone great like Charles Babbage for instance. Babbage developed plans for the analytical engine, the forerunner of the modern digital computer. What do you think he was thinking before providing the scientific, engineering and mathematical advancements to the world? Certainly not desperate to work for someone else! Here are some examples of mesmerizing inventors who dug deep into science and engineering and discovered millions of magnificent ways to help the world.
George Stephenson
Known as the ‘Father of Railways’, George built the first public intercity railway line in the world. He was an English civil and mechanical engineer who invented the rail gauge, which is now the standard gauge for most countries.
James Watt
A Scottish inventor, mechanical engineer, and chemist who improved on Thomas Newcomen's 1712 Newcomen steam engine with his Watt steam engine in 1776, which was fundamental to the changes brought by the Industrial Revolution in both his native Great Britain and the rest of the world.
Nikola Tesla
He is known for his contribution to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system. Was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist with a futuristic vision! While the engineers today seek admission on JEE Main rank, Tesla worked on real-life projects like the radio, X-ray machines and induction motors. Truly one of a kind. Now let's talk about his controversial mate...
Thomas Edison
Edison has also invented a number of other things like the motion picture camera, stock ticker, and battery for the electric car, a mechanical vote recorder and the phonograph. He is Primarily known for inventing the light bulb. He was also among the first ones to practice mass production for his inventions, manufacturing on a large scale. He has around 1093 US patents on his name and many more outside the US. He was an excellent engineer.
Amar Gopal Bose
An electrical engineer and sound engineer, he was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for over 45 years. He was also the founder and chairman of Bose Corporation. In 2011, he donated a majority of the company to MIT in the form of non-voting shares to sustain and advance MIT's education and research mission.
George Stephenson
Rightly called the ‘Father of Railways’. George built the first public intercity railway line in the world. He was an English civil and mechanical engineer who invented the rail gauge, which is now the standard gauge for most countries.
These are some examples of monumental engineering, and there are literally too many to name a few. Our only intention is to get the true importance of engineering before you.
But, before you get any wrong ideas, we want to make it clear that you should only say yes to a job where your responsibilities will help the establishment to reach its mission while you keep developing your own personally as well!
We help our future aspirants to be the forthcoming technocrats. We do care for your well-being and want you to be satisfied with your choice of academics.
Imagine this scenario - You dutifully make your to-do-list and create what you think is a reasonable schedule and timetable to finish up you...
The habit of procrastination among students and how to overcome it
You dutifully make your to-do-list and create what you think is a reasonable schedule and timetable to finish up your project or a task. The next day comes and you sit at your computer, look at your list, and then for reasons you can’t even explain, open up Facebook and lose hours reading the same inconsequential news feed over and over again. Your timetable is blown up and you move on to something else, something more pressing or something just as inane.
Sounds familiar?
We thought so!
Have you ever wondered why you – or others – procrastinate?
Sometimes people procrastinate because other options for how to spend their time are too tempting to pass up, or they think they can work better under pressure. People convince themselves that they’re waiting until crunch time because the product will be better. Other times, they procrastinate because they don’t know how to begin.
